Red Wing on its way to addressing 2021 priorities

Red Wing on its way to addressing 2021 priorities Red Wing City Council members and staff are working to meet goals set in January for the year. Written By: Rachel Fergus | × Red Wing City Hall. File photo Local governments are constantly creating goals and priorities for the next year, the next decade and the next 20 years. In Red Wing, the city has the 2040 Plan, a 10-year strategic plan and an annual priorities list created by council members. Before the annual City Council workshop held in January, the seven council members went through the city’s 10-year Strategic Plan and each member highlighted the five strategies that he or she hopes to focus on in 2021. The collection of the selected priorities were compiled into a 2021 priority list.

LIST: Where does it flood in East Texas?

WHAT TO DO DURING A FLOOD Keep your  Disaster Supply Kit handy so you can grab it and go in case you must evacuate suddenly. Don’t underestimate the power of floodwaters. They can move swiftly, often faster than they appear. They are very dangerous. A car will float in only a few inches of swiftly moving water. Never allow children to play near floodwaters. Adults are also at risk. As little as six inches of moving water can knock an adult off their feet. If you become stranded by floodwaters and must escape, wear a life jacket. In some situations, it may be safer to climb onto a rooftop or into a tree and wait for rescue.

Hoover police Chief Nick Derzis said 2020 was the strangest year he’s ever seen in his 40-plus years as a police officer, but it resulted in some positive crime trends for the city. Total offenses in categories reported to the FBI were down 16% in 2020 from 4,458 to 3,749, police records indicate.
