Montez Coleman, King Williams, and Demetrius Dewayne Jackson face capital murder charges in the shooting that killed 8-year-old Royta Giles and hurt three others.
Police say a verbal altercation on the first level near the food court led to the shooting. Three others were injured.
Investigators testified Coleman fired a shot and Jackson and Williams fired back, hitting the three victims.

Three young men charged in the July Riverchase Galleria shootout that killed 8-year-old Royta Giles Jr. have been indicted in the boy’s death.
A Jefferson County grand jury this month issued indictments against Montez Moses Miracle Coleman, 22, King Gary Williams, 19, and Demetrius Dewayne Jackson Jr., also 19. All three were indicted on capital murder and three counts of second-degree assault. The indictments were made public Tuesday.
On July 3, Royta was killed when he, his mother, Jesslyn Layfield, stepfather Anthony Jones, and sisters Trinity, 5, and Marlee, 4, were waiting to go into the Children’s Place to buy new outfits for the Fourth of July.
