Process where families may apply to any Elementary School in the district. Despite our well intentioned efforts, the process has not worked as well as intended meeting goals related to diversity, predictability and proximity. In our Current System. Families must chose from 72 different schools and arent guaranteed an assignment to any of them. The families with the most time and resources are best able to figure out the application process, research schools, go on school tours, and ultimately receive one of the top choices. Despite the complicated process, our schools are just as segregated today as they were when we implemented the system. What weve heard we know that every family wants to send their child to a highquality school and that students assignment alone cannot create highquality stools but it does have a role to play in creating diverse robust enrolled schools. I never knew that i would one day grow up and oversee the Free City College program at the department of children, youth, and their families, increasing access to Educational Opportunities for our Community Every day. In this role, i also monitoring the entire budget for the program. My passion for education started at a young age. I grew up in a lowincome household and have experienced firsthand the transformative nature of education both as a student and teacher. But over time, i realized how Education Systems failed our most vulnerable students. As a former legislative aide, i worked on legislation to ban the box on private college applications, making San Francisco the first city in the nation to do so. During this time of a Global Pandemic and a social movement to dismantle systemic racism, city College Needs a new voice and a proven leader in education. Reporter the changes to criminal activity here coincide with some sweeping changes that both the city and the state have made during this pandemic. Hotels that used to be reserved for tourists on lombard street have since been given to people expanding homelessness who did not have anywhere to shelter in place safely. Public records obtained by kpix5 show 911 calls to the buena vista in near mike and donna have tripled since the city started housing Homeless People there. Going from one or two calls a month to up to 14 calls a month at its peak. We have received complaints from neighbors living near three other hotels housing the homeless, some complained of open drug use. Others cited overdoses and sexual acts being performed during the day. At each of those hotels, emergency calls also tripled after unhoused individuals moved in.
