POWAY (KUSI) – A motorist was killed this morning in a solo-vehicle crash into a tree near a Poway intersection, authorities said.
The wreck was reported about 2:50 a.m. near the intersection of Pomerado Road and Twin Peaks Road, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. David Toner.
Investigators determined a 2010 Honda Civic coupe was heading eastbound on Camino Del Norte when its driver allowed the vehicle to veer to the right off the roadway and collide with a tree near Pomerado Road, Toner said.
The vehicle’s driver, the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sergeant said.

Poway
One of Poway’s most historic structures one that has become rat-infested and dilapidated since being shuttered and fenced off 15 years ago will likely be torn down to make way for a low-income housing complex for veterans.
The Big Stone Lodge off Old Pomerado Road, built nearly 90 years ago and for decades a thriving country-western bar, restaurant and dance hall, has sat vacant since 2003.
Owned by the city the past 15 years when it bought the property for $845,000, plans to partially renovate the lodge and turn the property into a community center and park never materialized.
Meanwhile, the city has been searching for years for a spot to build low-income veterans housing and officials think the 1.7-acre property is perfect because of its location, which would likely not generate any stiff community opposition.
