but they ll also use pinger locaters to find out where the flight data recorders are and any sort of underwater robotics they want to look through the wreckage, to retrieve some of the wreckage. they have a lot of tools as their disposal here. they will probably deploy all f of them as they try to collect every piece of this plane that they can, along with all of the victims. do they use the divers and submersibles at the same time? not everything is created equal down here. recovery of the bodies is important. the recovery of things like the flight data recorder is very important. but this process could drag on for some time. i mentioned tw-800 that went down off long island. we re talking about ocean currents that can move things around. twa-800 went down over this kind of water.
that part they will be able to do. they will be able to figure out what hit it. tw-800 was obviously not an act of a criminal. it was a center wing tank explosion. but they can tell by the pitting, they can do tests, forensic testing for what kind of explosive it was. they can look at the telltale signs on the bodies, the nature of explosives. and they can get the signature of what it was that brought the plane down. so they will find out what brought the plane down. but then holding those accountable, and the tug of war that will go on with the black boxes and, of course, the missile launcher. russia played this tug of war with the black boxes on kll 007 for two decades, as to whether they had them. first they said they never found the crash site. they found it three days after they went looking for it in the water. and then they said they didn t have the black boxes. ten years later we find out we had them all of the time. so there is going to be a big tug of war over these. and
may ry, they want to bring every piece of the debris up obviously. is that the way they do with other airplanes, reassembly it in a big hangar to try to figure out what happened? it s necessary to try to figure out what happened. often you can figure out why a plane crashed from the maintenance data and the flight data recorder. for example, the reassembly of tw 800 is because they simply couldn t figure it out from the black boxes. we don t do it unless you just can t figure it out. but you do comb through the wreckage that you get up. it will depend entirely what they find on the black boxes. if they have no solutions, then they re going to need to
a cable that has the power and the hydraulics and all the resources to operate that rov. the operators of course are still up on the mother ship. so it takes time to lower that rov properly down to the aircraft so we can operate it and has all the sophisticated camera systems on it. it takes all that time to get it down to the bottom to do the work we need it to do. in return, if we need to bring any of the pieces that those manipulator arms picks up, say the black box, it takes the same amount of time to bring it back up to the surface. that will extend the amount of time we are working. when you are looking 59 flight twa 800, you said it wasn t in that deep of water even though it was a pain staking process. a lot of people might be thinking more of the air france
flight that was going from rio to paris and it crashed. there was some wreckage found not too long after the flight crashed, after the plane crashed. it took a couple of years to find the black boxes. could this be a more realistic case when you are looking at flight 370 where you don t have a lot of information about where it went down? with the air france flight, there was a lot of debris floating on the surface. that s the debris that was brought back right away. the search started immediately on the ocean bottom. they had a much better idea of where to start the search because they did have that debris on the surface. it still took two years. they were unable to find the pingers within that first search from the floating debris. it still took two years using the side scan sonar.
