Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul learned that it could be severely depleted in the regular season finale, and possibly the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs, due to injuries that their star duo of Jan Vesely and Nando De Colo suffered in Friday s loss against FC Barcelona. Vesely played only 6 minutes before exiting that game in the first quarter after rolling his ankle and being helped off the court. He was unable to return and the tests on Saturday morning revealed a left ankle ligament injury. Vesely is set to miss Fenerbahce s Round 34 game against Real Madrid on Thursday. He will be reevaluated in two weeks, just before the start of the playoffs. A time-table for his return has not been established yet. De Colo suffered a trauma after knee-to-knee collision with Nick Calathes with 4 minutes left in the game and had to be assisted off the court. Coming off a painful home loss to Olympiacos Piraeus two days earlier, Valencia Basket needed to win on ALBA Berlin s court on Friday to assure that its chances to qualify for the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs would remain alive. As such, it was a do-or-die game for Valencia against another already-eliminated opponent playing without pressure because it had nothing to lose.
That disparity in expectations likely made a difference early in Friday s game. ALBA doubled Valencia at the end of the first quarter, 26-13, as the visibly tight visitors made just 4 of 14 field goal tries and turned the ball over 6 times. A four-point play by Marcus Eriksson early in the second quarter made it worse for Valencia, raising ALBA s advantage to 35-17 and triggering alarms on the visiting team.

Despite having already lost all chances to qualify for the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Playoffs, Khimki Moscow Region did not lack the motivation to face its Round 32 game against visiting LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne on Wednesday night. Given that it was its last at home - the next two games will be on the road at CSKA Moscow and Olympiacos Piraeus, Wednesday’s game turned into a perfect occasion to grant its fans a last chance to celebrate together.
It seemed close after Khimki amassed a 15-point lead early after halftime, but when the visitors rallied back in the fourth quarter and ended up sending the game to overtime behind back-to-back triples by William Howard, many doubted a happy ending was going to come.

After a quartet of new Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Playoffs qualifiers made themselves known earlier this week, in Round 32, attention turns on Thursday and Friday to the remaining incognitos here at the tail end of the 34-game regular season:
First, which teams may fill the last three open playoffs berths; and second, the parallel race to finish among the top four teams and gain home-court advantage in the next phase.
Five teams still have chances to fill those three open playoff spots. However, just two of those five – FC Bayern Munich (19-13) and either TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz (18-14) or Real Madrid (18-14) – will be able to push through as soon as Friday. That would leave at least one open playoff spot to be solved in Round 34 or when Zenit St Petersburg (17-14) plays its pending Round 6 rescheduled game against already-eliminated Panathinaikos OPAP Athens on Monday, April 12.
