New Year: Four arrested for faking kidnap to raise money

Punch Newspapers Sections ABIODUN NEJO The police in Ekiti State have arrested four men for allegedly faking the kidnap of one of them, Adelusi Adeweye, to get N250,000 from his family members for New Year celebration. The three other suspects are Yusuf Hassan, Yakubu Usani and Agboola Damilola, who the police said were arrested alongside the fake kidnap victim in a bush between Iworoko Ekiti and Ifaki Ekiti at about 10pm on New Year’s eve. The Spokesperson for the police in the state, Sunday Abutu, said in a statement on Saturday entitled, “RRS arrests self-kidnapper, three others,” that the suspects were arrested by the police following a report of the matter which made the cops to swing into action.

The mother of four who sells firewood and grinds pepper to fend for herself and family members told Sunday PUNCH that she had been put out of business by swindlers who scammed her and other victims in the guise of granting them loans to grow their businesses. Kazeem was among traders and artisans in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, and environs duped of their monies by alleged conmen who operated under the Atlas Initiative Scheme Investment. Although the victim could not ascertain the exact number of those defrauded by the thrift company, she said over 1000 traders and artisans were in attendance at a seminar organised by the fraudsters.
