RIGBY Having a conversation with a child following a traumatic event is paramount in maintaining mental health.
But how do you broach that subject? How do you handle talking to your child about events like Thursday morning’s school shooting at Rigby Middle School? How do you handle that conversation once it is initiated?
Christine Cardona, a licensed professional counselor at Answers, LLC in Idaho Falls, says the first step is to be completely open and up front. And don’t be afraid, ashamed or too shy to seek assistance.

RIGBY The morning after a shooting at Rigby Middle School, eastern Idaho is rallying around the phrase “Rigby Strong,” and reaching out to help a grieving community.
From signs to flowers to the thousands of eastern Idahoans, and many businesses that have expressed a desire to help out.
Pick Me Up, a popular soda shack franchise, has extended its free drink promotion through Friday at their Rigby location in a show of support. Additionally, the soda shack will be accepting donations through cash or check until Saturday. The company says they will match the donations up to $10,000 and give the funds directly to the three shooting victims.

IDAHO FALLS A local counseling clinic is trying to provide its clients with food for Christmas by hosting its first-ever food drive.
The staff at Tueller Counseling Services which has locations in Idaho Falls, Rexburg and Rigby are collecting food donations for the next few days, and they are asking for help from the community.
“Due to COVID-19 there have not been as many resources for families this holiday season as there have been in years past,” Tanna Faler, an office staff member who’s helping oversee the project, told EastIdahoNews.com. “Tueller Counseling Services got together and decided we wanted to do a food drive to give back to the community this holiday season.”
