Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Wednesday condemned the renewed attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue State.
The governor who stressed that the killer herdsmen are from neighboring countries said the killings will not be allowed under his watch and security agents will be deployed to the affected communities.
“These terrorist herdsmen, who most of them are not Nigerians, found their way into Nigeria and are killing people.
“This will not be allowed under my watch. We will continue to work with security people and ensure we stop this.
“Because livestock agro-ranger are doing well these herdsmen have decided to target them. This is not right,” Ortom said.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on youths in the state to stand up and defend themselves and their communities against armed bandits attacking parts of the state.
Governor Ortom’s call came after armed bandits reportedly invaded Agboughul village in the outskirts of Makurdi town at about 11p.m., killing one lawyer, Mr. Moses Udam, who is also a pastor of Gospel Faith Mission; his wife Nkechi and an 88-year-old blind Mazugu Nyikor.

They also inflicted bullets wound on the two teenage sons of blind Nyikor and the deceased pastor’s sister after which they besieged the home of one Amaa Ate, where they made away with N200,000.

A clan head, his son, brother and in-law were, late Friday night, reportedly killed while seven others, including a four- year-old and a nursing mother, sustained serious bullet wounds when suspected armed herdsmen invaded Tse Angbande community, Adaka in the outskirt of Makurdi the capital of Benue State.
The nursing mother, Veronica Akwa, who lost her husband in the attack but sustained bullet wound on her toe and stomach, said: “The people who were speaking Fulani came around 11pm when we had all gone to bed, forced our doors open and shot our father, Emberga Akwa, who is the head of our clan.

The survivors of suspected Fulani herdsmen attack on Tse Angbande in Adaka axis, a suburb of Makurdi, on Friday night gave gory tales of how an extended family was nearly wiped out during the attack.
The family head, Emberga Akwa, his younger brother, Innocent Akwa, son, Terhemba Akwa, and an in-law identified as Orban were killed in the attack.
Akwa’s daughter-in-law, Veronica, a nursing mother, was shot on the leg and was taken to the Benue State University Teaching, Makurdi, alongside Ephraim Akwa and Aphous Akwa, who were also injured.
While narrating the incident to our correspondent on Saturday at the teaching hospital, one of the survivors, Aphrous Akwa, cried profusely.
