2020, a year characterized by the covid-19 pandemic has been a tough year as many prominent Nigerian socialites died during the difficult year, throwing the nation into mourning. As 2020 draws to a close, The Street Journal remembers some of these prominent socialites who died during the year.
Below is a list of 11 prominent socialites who passed on in 2020
Renua Giwa Amu: She is the daughter of popular clergyman, Femi Giwa-Amu and just yesterday, December 26th, the young lady took her own life. Earlier this year, the young lady had called out her famous father on social media accusing him of raping her as a child on numerous occasion. Unable to bear the anguish and the emotional torture the incidence scarred her with, coupled with fact that family members ganged up against her to accuse her, Renua took her life.
Except for the most pessimistic individuals, nobody expected 2020 to come to a darker close than its beginning. However, taking the gruesome death of Dapo Ojora into account, the pessimists were right to be suspicious.
The death of Dapo Ojora came as a sudden shock to everyone. Nobody thought that the 58-year-old son of a business tycoon, Otunba Adekunle Ojora, would be found in the pool of blood, dead to the world. But that is exactly what happened. According to reports, the late Ojora was found lying on a bloody floor in his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, with spent bullets around his remains.

I was not fortunate enough to meet Dapo Ojora from childhood days; we met later in life. Ours was therefore purely an adult friendship. The beauty of adult friendships is that very often you both know exactly what you are getting. There is often mutual acceptance of the fact that, invariably, personalities have already been formed and are unlikely to change significantly.
Even in polo circles, our friendship was a mystery to many. Dapo started riding horses and playing Polo from a young age. I had turned 30 before I ever climbed a horse. Dapo was already the highest handicapped polo player from Southern Nigeria before I ever climbed a horse. He watched me learn how to ride a horse at the Lagos Polo Club and he watched me carry a polo stick for the first time.
