earth. i m wolf blitzer. you re in the situation room. mitt romney is using ads, web videos, speeches to hammer away at president obama on welfare. romney is taking a lot of heat though over his claims about the administration s policies, but with support from an unlikely ally he s raising the stakes today. here s our national political correspondent jim acosta. reporter: wolf, mitt romney is not backing away from his accusation that president obama is trying to make it easier for the poor to receive welfare checks and to help make his case he s getting some help from an old rival. they just send you your welfare check. reporter: even though his ad accusing the president of weakening work requirements for welfare recipients got a pants on fire from politifact and four pinocchios from the washington post, mitt romney is doubling down on the claim. this is to help people go to work so they can stop drawing a welfare check and start drawing a paycheck. reporter:
touch and going situation because loughner has broken down in court . he s been dragged out screaming. he s exhibited active signs of mental illness at many hearings. here is what the judge is trying to decide. to be competent you have to understand what s going on in the courtroom, understand the charges against you and be able to at least provide minimal assistance to your own lawyers. it s a very low standard. if you are delusional and ranting and raving, youon t meet the test. he s failed the test on other occasions. two psychiatrists have said he s incompetent to stand trial. he seemso go in and out of competence. today, the judge is looking at him saying is he as of today competent stand trial and enter a guilty plea. all right. if not, if he is not competent then the plea deal becomes moot, doesn t it? plea deal is off. if he s found not competent, he goes back to the hospital and remains under treatment until some day in the future he becomes competent again and i
