worried at all, i believe that once the person leaves the european union britain will be hugely successful on the world stage and brexit is all about freedom, sovereignty, self-determination, economic liberty as well and you will see britain doing extremely well in brexit era. gillian: let s talk about optics for a second as much as i loathe that word, president trump met with boris johnson in g7, first time they were meeting as equals, really, as foreign heads of state representing their governments, right? lots of chemistry between them, president trump loves to talk about how they are friends. i mentioned to you a moment ago a lot of americans see a lot of president trump in boris johnson but then this week mike pence over there in london, he sat down with boris johnson for the first time at 10 downing street, i don t know if we have video there for folks at home but a lot of people said, whoa, whoa, whoa, they definitely do not
these are annual exercises at that happen every year. joining us now is ivan watson with the very latest on this. good morning to you, ivan. reporter: the missiles were launched around 5:30 a.m. local time. two short-range ballistic missiles, which is pretty much the pattern that we ve seen for about two and a half weeks. firing on july 25th, july 31st, august 2nd, august 6th, and then this morning. now there s another key date there that s not on the calendar, june 30th. that s when president trump met face-to-face with kim jong-un on the demilitarized zone and became the first american president to step into north korea. and yet all these missiles have been fired after that. well, the north koreans said earlier this week they re very unhappy about the u.s. and south korea having annual joint military exercises.
you just so much want to be a fly on the wall to hear what they re saying to each other. i have to admit, of course, all of us would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when president trump met saw prince harry for the first time after those comments to a british tabloid newspaper. but, look, it s just such it s so fascinating, isn t it? to see, if you like, these two families looking at history. and making history. without a doubt. and you can see just beyond the president the duchess of cornwall and prince charles. and snfr and national security adviser john bolton just beyond them. and it s interesting, president trump saying he s going to bring his family members but of course, these family members, jared and ivanka are senior
suspending negotiations. they announced that they were thinking about it. when you put that all together, they are trying to give that little leverage that they are not prepared to walk away. my guess is both sides were disappointed by the result that neither side wants to walk away right now. but things are not moving in a good direction. arthel: to that point, although some went into the premature fanfare, not enough negotiating dealmaking before president trump met with kim jong un. now that this is so far down the road, might the two get diplomacy back on track. is certainly a possibility as you will remember the president himself raised the prospect of a third summit. so he appears to be open to it. but to your premise, i m personally in that camp that would like to see more homework done. i welcome the first summit. i thought it was a good idea.
