Members of the Trumbull-Porter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and members of the Charles Merriman Society, Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) celebrated Earth Day by helping to clean up the Old Burying Ground in Watertown. They picked up the 82 wreaths from the Wreaths Across America ceremony which had been placed on the graves of veterans buried in the cemetery and collected a number of bags of trash.

After the C.A.R. members cleaned up the cemetery, they held a short meeting and discussed what Earth Day was about. Discussion was held on a variety of ways to help reduce household trash or reuse or repurpose some household items. Members also learned about Charles Merriman, the namesake of their Society. He was a 14-year-old drummer boy in the American Revolution and is buried in the Old Burying Ground. They were then tr

Recently the Trumbull-Porter Chapter NSDAR members donated many items needed by Safe Haven in Waterbury. They included, lap blankets, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, diapers, baby wipes, toiletries, such as deodorant, shampoo, soap, feminine hygiene needs, snack items, store cards and cash donations.
Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury serves victims of domestic violence. It provides emergency shelter and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault against women and children.
Trumbull-Porter Chapter encompasses the towns of Watertown, Waterbury, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Woodbury, Southbury and neighboring towns. Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution is open to any women 18 years and older regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American Independence.
