State police released the identity of a 67-year-old Fayette County man fatally shot by troopers following a standoff for several hours Tuesday at his Saltlick home.
Police say Keith Robert Tafoya, 67, exited his Pine Slope Road home and pointed a shotgun at members of the state police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT).
A Melcroft man was fatally shot by police at the conclusion of a lengthy standoff that began with a call for domestic violence and shots fired at state troopers Tuesday.
âThey acted appropriately to handle the situation,â said Trooper Robert Broadwater, spokesman for the Uniontown station. âItâs not the outcome we wanted at all. We wanted a peaceful resolution with this.â
After several hours of negotiations, the man, who has not yet been identified, came out of his home, said Broadwater. Once outside, he raised a gun at police.
State police were first called to the Pine Slopes Road home in Saltlick Township at about 10:30 a.m. after a woman escaped the house and called 911 to report domestic violence. The man fired shots through a door at troopers responding to the scene, Broadwater said.
State police identified the man fatally shot by a trooper after a standoff that started with a call about domestic violence in Melcroft Tuesday afternoon.
Keith Robert Tafoya, 67, of Acme, raised his gun at police when he exited his home after hours of negotiations, Trooper Robert Broadwater said.
Police were initially called to the home on Pine Slopes Road in Saltlick Township at about 10:30 a.m. after a woman escaped the house and called 911 to report domestic violence. When state police arrived, Tafoya fired shots through the front door at them, according to Broadwater.
The State Police Emergency Response Team was dispatched to the house and negotiators spoke with Tafoya throughout the standoff. When Tafoya exited the house, raising his gun to police, they fatally shot him.
