Violence erupted once again in Manipur after a brief lull, with three people injured in clashes in Heirok of Thoubal District, Tengnoupal district, and Pallel of Kakching District. The firing between two groups from Heirok and Tengnoupal has been ongoing since the previous evening. Following the incident, irate Village Volunteers and the public of Heirok retaliated against the armed miscreants.
A defence spokesperson said that the army launched a joint search operation, based on specific input about movement of suspicious individuals and presence of illegal arms and ammunition, along with SSB, Manipur Police including Commandos.The recovered items were handed over to police after the operation.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma expects President s Rule to be imposed in Manipur due to the ongoing situation. He believes that a solution needs to be reached between the Indian government, Manipur government, and tribal leaders. The Mizoram government is providing shelter to Indian citizens from Manipur who have taken refuge in Mizoram. The Chief Minister emphasizes the need for the Home Ministry to intervene and find a resolution. Additionally, Myanmar soldiers seeking shelter in Mizoram will be repatriated soon.
As restive Manipur witnesses no respite in the unceasing ethnic strife, the opposition Congress has heaped pressures on all three MPs from the state to raise the issue in the ongoing Parliament session to ensure peace is restored in the state. A delegation of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), to this end, has submitted memoranda to the trio -Inner Manipur MP and Union MoS for education and external affairs, RK Ranjan, Outer Manipur MP Lorho S Pfoze and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba.
Passing the order, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Tuesday said that it would "not be appropriate" to keep the bodies indefinitely in the mortuaries. The bench ordered that the list of identified bodies should be duly intimated to the next of kin and the last rites should be performed with dignity and observance of religious rites of the community.
