Car. It happened here on broadway about 10 40 this morning. A police car equipped with a camera using license Plate Recognition Technology was cruising broadway. As the officer was driving down the street, one of the plates came back as being a stolen vehicle. That vehicle was parked. The officer got out to investigate. Reporter the Police Officer noticed someone sitting in the car. Officer esparza says its routine for the officer to draw his gun in such situations. When the suspect inside the vehicle noticed the officer, that vehicle then attempted to flee the scene. The suspects door on the vehicle was slightly ajar. The motion of the vehicle caused the door to fling open. Striking the officer in the arm. At that time is when the impact caused the weapon to go off. That the officer was holding.
