Retentions: innocent firms lose millions while BEIS delays

New trade alliance to succeed disbanded SEC Group

A group of industry trade bodies will launch a successor to the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group, which has ceased operations. First established in 1993, the SEC Group gained wide recognition for campaigning against payment malpractice in the industry, championing prompt payment initiatives, project bank accounts and working to reform retentions. The group’s chief executive, Rudi Klein, and chairman, Trevor Hursthouse, stood down at the end of 2020. The new alliance, to be named at its launch event next week, will reassemble most of the trade bodies that comprised the SEC Group. Announced members are: Building Engineering and Services Association (BESA)
