Actuate UK, a new umbrella organisation of trade bodies in the engineering services sector has been formed today.
The new alliance will fill the breach left by the closure of the SEC Group at the start of this year, though Actuate UK aims to tackle a much broader range of issues than the payment malpractices for which the SEC Group was renowned. In particular, the new group aims to drive progress on skills, sustainability and building safety, as well as recovery from the virus crisis.
At its launch, Actuate UK comprises eight engineering trade bodies:
Building Engineering and Services Association (BESA)
A group of industry trade bodies will launch a successor to the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group, which has ceased operations.
First established in 1993, the SEC Group gained wide recognition for campaigning against payment malpractice in the industry, championing prompt payment initiatives, project bank accounts and working to reform retentions. The group’s chief executive, Rudi Klein, and chairman, Trevor Hursthouse, stood down at the end of 2020.
The new alliance, to be named at its launch event next week, will reassemble most of the trade bodies that comprised the SEC Group. Announced members are:
