(LEX 18) — Local health experts led a community town hall on Saturday to answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine as the state continues its push to vaccinate more Kentuckians. The University of Kentucky partnered with local faith leaders and SHARE Lexington for the event, which was held virtually but broadcast at several community centers across the city. Those who attended in person also had the opportunity to register for a COVID-19 vaccine. “We want to encourage people to continue to have these crucial conversations about the vaccine,” said Chief Diversity Officer for UK HealthCare Tukea Talbert.

SHARE Center, 572 Georgetown St., Lexington, Ky. Masks and physical distancing are required at all locations. At these sites, attendees will watch a virtual panel of health care experts from UK HealthCare and the UK Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine and Health Sciences who will answer common questions about the vaccines. The panel includes Deshana Collett, Ph.D., associate professor in UK College of Health Sciences; Trenika Mitchell, Pharm.D., associate professor in the College of Pharmacy; Dr. Sylvia Ofei, assistant professor in the College of Medicine; and Vincent Venditto, Ph.D., assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy. The panel will be moderated by Tukea Talbert, DNP, the chief diversity officer for UK HealthCare.

UK Women s Forum to Focus on Intersectionality in March Professional Development Sessions

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2021)  Do you want to expand your understanding of diversity and inclusivity? It is time to talk about intersectionality with the University of Kentucky Women’s Forum. The March professional development session and monthly “Coffee and Connect” programming will explore the concept and history of intersectionality, help you to recognize your own intersectional identities, and provide strategies for incorporating intersectionality into diversity and inclusivity initiatives. From 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 16, on Zoom, Demetria McDonald, founder and CEO of Decide Diversity, will discuss intersectionality. McDonald works with groups across the country to improve diversity and inclusion practices that positively impact business results.
