Areas with Covid cases on cluster map centre on west Cornwall

Although the number of new cases have risen very slightly on a week ago, the areas reporting them in Cornwall have almost halved - and they re almost all centred on one part.  It s as 64 new cases of coronavirus were recorded across the seven days leading up to April 23 – the most recent five days not shown due to incomplete data. This is two more than the weekly figure recorded a week ago, marking a 3.2% rise. The rolling rate has also risen slightly, to 11.2 cases per 100,000 people compared to 10.8 cases per 100,000 last Wednesday. Two new cluster areas showing three or more cases of Covid-19 have been added to today s map, although the overall number remains the same. It s as the weekly number of new cases in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly in the seven days leading up to Monday this week, April 19, rose to 72 in total. The most recent five days are not shown due to incomplete data. It was an increase of 28 cases on the previous week, representing a 63.6 per cent rise. The rolling rate of new cases is now 12.6 cases per 100,000 people, compared to only 7.7 cases per 100,000 people in last Saturday s update.

Saturday saw a new low this year with only two clusters remaining on the Government map, and only three a week ago. However, on Wednesday s map the number has climbed back up to eight cluster areas. It s in a week that saw weekly cases fall to their lowest number all year. Across the seven days leading up to April 12 there were 44 new cases recorded - 13 fewer than the weekly total last Saturday and a fall of 22.8%. The most recent five days are not shown due to incomplete data. It represents a rolling rate of just 7.7 cases per 100,000 people. These are now the lowest figures this week, however. On Thursday the rate was just 6.8 cases per 100,000, following a weekly figure of only 39 cases in the seven days to April 10.
