04/21/21 Johnson County Democrat Scott Finlayson has announced his intention to seek a seat on the county Board of Supervisors. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that Finlayson has government experience, working as assistant county attorney, working in the County Attorney’s civil division, and in 2012 as deputy county treasurer. He also has experience in finance. A seat on the Board became open when longtime supervisor Janelle Rettig announced her retirement Sunday. 21 months remain on her current term. The County can either appoint a replacement Supervisor, or hold a special election. An election can be forced by citizen petition. According to the newspaper, County Treasurer Tom Kriz, Recorder Kim Painter and Auditor Travis Weipert will meet Friday afternoon to discuss their options.
