The Queensboro Dance Festival tour is kicking off its milestone 10th season starting June 3rd, 3-7pm along 34th Ave, and inside Travers Park, in Jackson Heights. It will be the only date of the tour where audiences can see all 25 Queens-based dance companies touring with the festival in one day. All programming is free
Travers Park’s playground was chosen by City Administrator Jennifer Stapleton’s office to use as the location for a new James Russell tennis facility. Not City Council’s decision, not city residents’ decision. When they shifted from the original location choice at the existing tennis courts over to the playground site, they claimed the soil tests made it necessary. But this is not true according to a public record request that showed both sites are basically the same and suitable for the large, tall building.
The City Council will have its hands full this week with several contract awards, presentations, project updates, and more.
Set to last five hours, the meeting will kick off with a pair of proclamations announcing the dates for National Safe Boating Week scheduled for May 20-26, and National Gun Violence Awareness Day, set for June 2.
The city of Sandpoint is hosting an informational open house at Travers Park, 2016 Pine St., on Wednesday, May 17, from 2:30-5 p.m.
The community is invited to an afternoon at the park to see the first phase of the park design, which includes the unveiling of the design of the James E. Russell Sports Center, City Administrator Jennifer Stapleton said. The public will have the opportunity to meet the design and construction team and provide feedback on future phases including an inclusive playground expansion and splash pad project, planned for the second phase.
