Columbus Junction anticipates tax levy drop Jim Rudisill for The Hawk Eye COLUMBUS JUNCTION Columbus Junction’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget, which includes Total Expenditures/Transfers Out of $2,487,904, received approval from the city council during its regular meeting on Wednesday. The council acted following a short public hearing that did not draw any local residents or comments. Mayor Mark Huston provided an overview of the budget, using two budget information summaries that had been prepared by city clerk Julie Heindel. According to Huston’s report, the budget projects Total Revenue/Other Sources of $2,682,124, which will leave an ending balance on June 30, 2022 of $533,848. The anticipated beginning FY22 balance on July 1, 2022, is $339,628.

(HCP Photo/Caitlin Forsha) During two sessions Wednesday, Dec. 16, Highland County commissioners Jeff Duncan, Terry Britton and David Daniels approved the 2021 budget, discussed permissive sales tax receipts and completed CARES Act reviews and other year-end business. Commissioners voted 3-0 Wednesday afternoon to approve the 2021 annual appropriations, with a $11.3 million total for the General Fund as recommended by county auditor Bill Fawley earlier this month.
