Former Wexford captain Lyng transfers to Tralee Parnells

Former Wexford captain Lyng transfers to Tralee Parnells January 26, 2021 Former Wexford hurling captain Diarmuid Lyng has transferred to Kerry outfit Tralee Parnells. The club announced yesterday via Twitter that Lyng would be joining them having been a resident in the Annascual area for the last couple of years. It’s a major coup for Parnells, having only fielded their first adult team in 2019, seven years after reforming, as they get set to line-out in the Kerry junior championship when club action resumes this year. Lyng hurled with Wexford from 2004 to 2013, winning a Leinster SHC title in his first year with the Slaneysiders, and continued to play with his native St Martin’s at junior level up until last season.

Kerry vice-captain Colum Harty says a victory in this weekend’s Joe McDonagh Cup final “would be huge” for hurling in the county. Fintan O’Connor’s men take on Antrim this Sunday at Croke Park (throw-in 1.00pm) in what is their first ever final appearance in the competition and Harty is keen for the Kingdom to seize the opportunity. “It would be massive. It s our first time getting to the Joe McDonagh final,” he told GAA.ie. “For kids going to school that are looking at the Kerry hurling team, it will be great for them to see us getting to Croke Park and to win it would be obviously better again in terms of the development of hurling in the county.
