company was accused of training money from nursing homes, leaving seniors to suffer from dehydration and malnutrition. victims died from abuse and neglect. trust bruce rauner to be governor? his nursing homes made over $1 billion while seniors paid the ultimate price. joining me now is illinois democratic governor, pat quinn. governor quinn, it is clearly campaign season. given what the democratic governors are doing against bruce rahner, i take it that s not the candidate you want to face in the general election? i m ready to face anybody. i think our state is making a comeback. we led the midwest since last may in job creation. when i became governor, we had an ethical crisis with one governor former governor in jail and another one going to jail. we had two in jail at the same time. we ve restored ethics in illinois, and we ve been able to reform our pension system, which was one of the biggest reforms ever accomplished in illinois. why do you think the
illinois labor relations act says teachers can only strike for compensation reasons, basically for money, there s been a lot of teachers and even some officials of the union who said essentially this is about the conditions. a lot has to do with the conditions that we are teaching in. tell us what you know about those conditions. yeah. the strike was obviously about working conditions but working conditions are student learning conditions. in chicago and across the country, what we see is huge class sizes. in chicago class sizes are in the 40s, children packed into a room with no air-conditioning. the proliferation of charter schools is training money from the coffers. this huge issue of high stakes testing, it s not just a teacher s issue. it s detrimental to students. they have done a great job of

on fox news sunday this week about her husband s counseling clinic, getting federal and state funds, she said it was a one-time training money that came from the federal government, and it certainly didn t help our clinic. at another point she said my husband and i did not get our money and it was mental health training money that went to the employees, but state records show that bachmann & associates has been collecting payments under the medicaid program every year for the past six years. when asked about that question about the grant being a one-time grant going for the employees, a state official told me tonight that that s not the case, the contract was with the clinic, not the employees, and as far as the state knows, the money went to the employees. that was nbc news investigative reporters michael isikoff. let s bring in the editor at large for salon, jon walsh, and
