The Capitol Police chief says in his prepared testimony he just wasnt expecting anything like this and they were prepared for something far less violent. He says he thinks this was part of the planned siege on the capitol to basically have this diversion that would take Law Enforcement assets away from the capitol. Received the Opening Statements from the people who are going to be testifying. And for the first time we are hearing from one of those people, paul irving, he is the house sergeant at arms, the former now, who essentially is part of the team that is in charge of securing the capitol and hes defending his actions that day as well as the others. And what he was saying in this Opening Statement, what he intends to say is that they have no intelligence to indicate that anyone was going to try and overtake the capitol. They say were still in the process of trying to find someone who is going to be the permanent replacement for former chief jackson. This is a city thats gone through a lot of turmoil. The whole world knows it. I suspect its been a difficult search. This is a place where whoever comes in is going to have a lot to deal with not only with the community trying to gain their trust but also with the city council trying to gain its trust. So its going to be a very difficult position to be in. We do know that theres an announcement thats coming up very quickly. We hope to hear more details about this new interim chief.
