Why is water a key attraction? Founder Larry Elliston is worth something like $100 billion so, naturally, one of his favorite hobbies is racing his $200 million luxury yacht Rising Sun.  He wasn t available for an interview about this but company officials indicated he s a fan of waterways in general.  It s no coincidence that the Austin campus was built on a lake and the matching Nashville offices will be on the Cumberland River.  Early design plans indicate water features will be integrated throughout the $1.2 billion development on the east bank of the river in a now-industrial area.  The parks and water features will be open to the public.

Industrial Development Board OKs Oracle plan

Metro Nashville’s Industrial Development Board on Tuesday approved the economic impact plan for River North infrastructure, which is built around Oracle’s future tech campus and public infrastructure. The IDB approved both the impact plan and the project agreement (both by a 6-2 vote) as a resolution to be sent to the Metro Council for consideration. The matter will see further consideration from the Metro Planning Department as well. The California tech giant has offered to fund (and then be reimbursed for) $175 million for public infrastructure updates at the site, which eventually could accommodate multiple office buildings with up to, collectively, 1.2 million square feet overlooking the Cumberland River.
