Lisbon pool unlikely to open for summer as search for leak funds continues | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff Writer LISBON The community swimming pool is unlikely to reopen this year for a second consecutive summer, as village officials continue to search for funds to repair it. The pool was closed last summer in response to the COVID-19 virus, and village councilman Ryan Berg reported at this week’s council meeting that it will probably remain so this year. Berg updated council on a recent meeting of the parks committee in which repairs to the pool were discussed. There are major leaks at the pool, and officials spent 2020 trying to come up with an affordable solution. A pool consulting firm recommended removing the stainless steel gutter/circulating system embedded in the concrete because the concrete had begun to deteriorate. This would cost an estimated $271,000.

Lisbon s general fund balance more than triples | News, Sports, Jobs

LISBON The village saw its year-end general fund carryover balance more than triple in 2020. Fiscal Officer Tracey Wonner reported at this past week’s village council meeting the general fund carryover in 2020 was $296,678 compared to $58,452 the year before. “There was a lot of bad this year, but there’s a lot of good financial news that came out of it,” she said. Mayor Peter Wilson found that to be “amazing” given the pandemic and unexpected capital improvement projects they had to undertake last year. “And also the taxpayers, who did pass an income tax rate increase as well,” he said.
