In a slight relief for residents, pollution levels in Delhi witnessed a marginal decrease on Tuesday morning after enduring five consecutive days of severe air quality. The national capital s Air Quality Index (AQI) improved from 421, as recorded at 4 pm on Monday, to 394, although it still remains in the "very poor" category.
Traditionally, Indians stay at home for the festivities; however, residents seem to be travelling to avoid deteriorating air quality. There has been a sharp increase in bookings for the Diwali weekend from the Delhi NCR region, said Amit Damani, co-founder of villa and bungalow rental company StayVista.
