Town mails census forms
ORANGE Town census forms were recently mailed to residents.
State law requires that the name, date of birth, occupation, nationality (if not a U.S. citizen), current address and address on Jan. 1, 2021, be obtained for all residents, according to a notice from Town Clerk Nancy Blackmer. The information obtained from the census is used in projecting school and public safety needs, certification of residence for in-state tuition, excise tax abatements, veterans’ services and voting status.
Failure to respond to the census results in removal from the active voter list and may result in removal from the voter registration rolls. Once a voter becomes inactive, prior to voting, they will be required to complete an Affidavit of Continuous Residence and show identification with the current residence.

■Riverbend School recently began its Peer Mediation program. Seventeen fifth- and sixth-grade students received 20 hours of training over four weeks under the auspices of the Franklin Mediation Service in Greenfield. Peer mediation seeks to have students learn to solve problems peacefully by talking them out with one another and working towards achieving win-win resolutions in which neither party loses and both parties meet their needs. The program will not supplant the school’s current discipline program but will be an adjunct to it. It is seen as an addition to the school’s and the students’ repertoire of problem-solving skills.
