A sugar maple, planted and dedicated to former Rockport Town Manager Rick Bates.
When former Town Manager Richard C. Bates retired in June 30, 2019, he told me all he wanted for a retirement gift was a tree.
Well, at the time, all we could give him was this plaque, but I promised I would make that happen.
Now that the Library is complete and we are able to plant trees at Memorial Park we were also able to fulfill that gift request – two years later!
This will definitely bring a smile to Rick’s face when he sees this, I sure he was beginning to think we forgot.

Embattled Milford Police Chief Michael Pighetti, who was placed on paid leave last week amid an inquiry into whether he misused his authority, on Tuesday defended his actions in a statement released by his lawyer.
Pighetti said in the statement that he was placed on leave following an incident that occurred late last month.
On Jan. 28, he said, he was driving his town-issued unmarked police vehicle when he saw another car run a red light at a busy intersection at Congress and West streets.
GLASTONBURY â The Town Council voted, 8-1, on Monday to settle a sex-discrimination lawsuit filed by a woman who was formerly a police sergeant in town but was passed over for promotion to lieutenant in 2016 despite having a scored higher on the promotional examination than the man who was promoted.
The amount of the settlement with the former sergeant, Kristin Shubert, wasnât disclosed during the brief public portion of Mondayâs council meeting, held via teleconference, which followed a separate hour-long teleconference that was closed to the public.
Efforts by the Journal Inquirer to reach Town Council Chairman Thomas P. Gullotta and Town Manager Richard J. Johnson for comment on the amount of the settlement after the meeting werenât immediately successful.
