Williamstown Makes Progress on Stabilizing Bank of Hoosic River

On Thursday evening, the Conservation Commission issued an emergency authorization to conduct the work to address a problem that pushed its way near the top of the town s priority list in December and intensified with this week s rains.   We went down today, and it was decidedly worse than it was yesterday, town conservation agent Andrew Groff told the commissioners.   Groff said there is currently 90 linear feet of erosion along that stretch of the river, and the land is being taken away at a precipitous rate.   Arthur and Wendy Campbell, whose North Street property has been eroding into the river since 2019, called the Williamstown Police when a Christmas Eve storm last December took away a large chunk of the bank and threatened to uncover one of the sewer lines that runs through their property.

Williamstown Select Board Plans Return to In-Person Meetings

There will be a couple of months where we re going back to old school meetings, but once the new technology is ready, there we go.

Williamstown Board Names Town Manager Search Committee, Seeks to Learn Lessons

Moving on to our next search, that committee will be subject to the Open Meeting Law, Hugh Daley said. There will be minutes. There will be portions that will have to go into executive session, like when we consider resumes.   Preliminary screening committees, like the search committee, are permitted to go into executive session if the chair declares that an open meeting will have a detrimental effect in obtaining qualified applicants, according to the Open Meeting Law.   The entire process of the Interim Police Chief Advisory Committee was exempt from the OML because it was serving as an advisory committee to an authority (in this case, the town manager) who could have made the decision at his or her sole discretion.
