Only a handful apply for Belchertown fire chief’s job

BELCHERTOWN Only a handful of people have submitted applications to serve as fire chief, Town Administrator Gary Brougham said during Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting.
Current Chief Edward F. Bock plans to retire May 20. He started with the department in 1978 and has been chief for 27 years.
“Currently only four or five applications for the chief’s position” have been submitted, Brougham said.
Whether that is an adequate pool from which to determine finalists remains to be seen, he said, adding: “We can always reopen the search.”
