Keep Davidson County Beautiful has received the 2022 President’s Circle Award from Keep America Beautiful, the nation’s leading community improvement nonprofit organization.
A recreation project in Davidson County will benefit from one of 17 grants announced Thursday by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

The Yadkin River Park got a little help from their friends with a recent $150,000 donation to go towards improvements at the park.
The Davidson County Commissioners donated $50,000 with a matching grant from Friends of Rowan to Tourism Recreation Investment Partnership in Davidson County for improvements to Yadkin River Park.

During the presentation of the check in March, the Friends of Rowan announced the organization would be donating an additional $50,000 towards the project in the future, bringing the overall total to $150,000. Abbotts Creek, High Rock Lake and Boone s Cave Park called out to Edgar Miller when he was a young boy looking for adventures and recreation in Davidson County.
The Eagle Scout swam and waterskied at High Rock Lake and camped with his Boy Scout Troop at the little forested knoll in the median strip south of Old Highway 64. Its destruction years later to make way for Interstate 85 transformed Miller s mindset, making him into the environmental activist he became as an adult when he saw how quickly the beauty of nature can be mowed over and wiped out in the name of progress.
