Family relives tragedy, calls for change following second deadly crash at railroad crossing

Thirteen years ago, Don Akins, of Silver Lake, was killed a very similar crash at that same location. His family remembers him as loving husband and father. When they learned this most recent fatality, Akins' wife Jane said she and her daughters couldn't help but feel for the grieving family on a personal level. On Tuesday, Carl Myles, of Topeka, was killed when his truck was struck by an oncoming Union Pacific train as he pulled out of Bettis Asphalt Concrete Supply.

Moorhead Italian restaurant Altony's under new ownership, fundraising for restaurant improvements - InForum | Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo news, weather and sports

Michael Olson took over ownership of Altony's Neighborhood Italian Cafe and Wine Bar roughly two weeks ago. He is currently using GoFundMe to fundraise for improvements and to keep the lights on. “It’s kind of a way to keep us from closing so I can make the rent, pay for the food, the electricity, the gas and pay our employees,” he said.
