That meeting did last until 3 00 this morning. The Council Voted to support a proposal to cut the Police Departments budget in half. And the big headline is that part of that proposal would be to cut Traffic Enforcement from the Police Department so to not have police pull people over for traffic violations, and this is believed to be that it would be the first city in the nation to make this move. Now, this is the first step in creating a City Department of transportation and that would allow for unarmed City Employees to deal with Traffic Enforcement. The vote came hours after a Public Comment session. Here is a sample of what was said. Traffic enforcement does not need to be an armed police concept. In rural Contra Costa County where a wild shootout left a Domestic Violence suspect three wounded by shotgun fire. A shotgun most of the time. But i heard two different guns going off. One quieter, and one louder. Reporter neighbors say the suspect made it clear to deputies that he didnt want to go back to jail. They obviously had guns drawn, and there were two police officers, like, at this wall right here, and you can tell they were trying to peek around. Reporter it began when a woman called 911 saying her ex boyfriend had held her hostage overnight, and poured gasoline on her, threatening to set her on fire. She managed to escape but warned deputies he had a gun in his waistband and carried a shotgun from room to room. Hostage negotiators trying to get him to come out peacefully, but he barricaded himself inside. I heard the flash bang, and it sound like someone was yelling, screaming, panicking.
