That would be my head line if i was the sporting green. There are tl the earthquakes are coming off the big win and the mls tournament set to take on Minnesota United saturday in the quarter finals of the knock out stage. Joining us live in orlando, no stranger to the team. Earthquake star tommy thompson, i know its after noon your time out there. Got to be feeling the humidity already. Yes, absolutely its hot but thats why we were actually the first team to come to florida to get acclimated to the temperature. Yes for sure. I was watching that match. The other night it was up tempo. Putting a lot of pressure on salt lake. Whats the vibe of the earthquakes right now coming off that big win heading into the quarters . We are ready to go. Like i said, we were the first ones in florida to prepare for the tournament and we want to be the last ones to leave. So we have our team iety right now and our game plan and we want too continue to execute it as we have been doing. What separates this team . You have been with the earthquakes for a while. If you had to put your finger on it, whats the one key thats different . Yeah, so our head coach came in and implemented a completely new team culture. Very supportive environment and positive. That encourages players to take risks. And theres a massive responsibility for us to be in as good of shape as we can be. And to make sure that were working as hard as we can when we dont have the ball but when we do, theres this freedom that is a new type of mentality. And they have brought that in from argentina with teams over there and chief in mexico and now hes doing it with us. A special group to be part of. Really happy to be playing for the earthquakes. Yeah, very happy toc had a ck and you drew a penalty on that in the 49th minute to give the quakes the lead 21. I got to ask you, youre in florida subpoena we see whats going on with Major League Baseball and the miami marlins. Being in the bubble, do you feel safe out there . There are a lot of people who think that Major League Baseball should shut down granted those players are getting on planes and traveling. Do you fays feel like youre okay . Yeah, been a really positive experience here in the bubble. We have been here over a month now. Initially there was some nerves. No doubt about it. A lot of teams were coming in. And some teams were bringing in a couple cases. So that was concerning because we didnt want that to spread throughout the bubble. But after all the teams arrived, we have kept the bubble clear. Every round of testing has shown up with no positive tests now. Not even a false positive. So its a really safe environment to be part of. Im really grateful to be here right now. It was really difficult for us to have to quarantine ourselves and not get access to the quakes facilities. It was around three months and thats the longest that i have not played soccer in a really long time. So to be able to be back here in florida to be back with the earthquakes as a group and doing what we do best, its a special feeling. I give a lot of credit to don and all the people in Major League Soccer that worked to make this happen because its gone well for us. For sure. Im sure you guys are killing time. Not always practicing out there and one question from a viewer, its actually my children. Theyre big fans of soccer and they always wonder, do you guys play fifa at all . Yeah, those guys that play fifa, i play fifa as well. Ive been playing it as much this trip but its funny because a lot of guys now are playing nba 2k. Thats the current game i would say. Nice, we got that too. Looking forward to saturday night here Minnesota United you have had good duals in the past. 31 goals combined over the last seven meetings so im expecting a lot of goals but a lot of great defense from you guys too. Whats the key if you had to put a finghe final four here . The key to us is to keep doing what we have been doing. We got to stay focused on the ball when were attacking and we have to be organized and make sure were not set to deliver the counter text. Im confident i think our team is in a good place right now and were looking forward to saturday. I think we all are. I think hey, from all of us here in the bay area and earthquake fans, you guys are brave for doing what youre doing and getting together on the pitch and playing this tournament. Its fun to watch. Ill tell you that back at home so good luck the rest of the way. Im broadcasting here in my sons room. We got pennants of champion is teams from the warriors and giants. If you could bring back a championship and a pennant i can hang it over my shoulder. Sounds good. Ill keep that in mind. Tommy thompson joining us live from Orlando Florida from the earthquakes. A new animated series of youtube examinings the most relevant social issues facing the u. S. In less than five minutes, funny, easy to understand videos called talk boring to me produced by ka mal bell and jacob corn blew. Were joined by jacob this morning. We have bell on the show. Hes a funny guy and funny to see him on videos. How did you come up with that name . Talk boring to me . Well, kamal didnt want to have a typical social justice video name. He wanted it to be make sure its a signal to people they will have fun watching videos so his idea was to call it talk boring to me so that he could whisper it in a bedroom voice that hes going to talk boring but its something you want to hear. And that is how they came up with the name for the series. Well, as long as i dont tell the kids the name. Are they for children or everyone . They are definitely good for High School Age kids and maybe even jr. High. Pretty intellectually stimulating. You learn history about the Public Education system or how the food system works. And theres some means of activation in the video. Like homelessness. Learn about the topic and the history and something you can do about it. So i think theyre great for kids and kids love the way that my kids love the way they look. How much of the overall message they get is depending on their age but theres certainly nothing inappropriate for kids to watch. How difficult is it to distill these very important and witty topics into the five minute videos . I manlen you have to be careful in the way they are written . Absolutely. You know, kamal gets a full hour for the tv show called united shades of america. And we tried to take the same content you get from a full hour of television and kill it down to four minutes. The animated format makes it better. You can pack a lot of fun things into it very quickly. But the writing is surprisingly challenging. The amount of effort put in per word in the scripts is much is r forms but its try to distill it down. Were busy and its fun to watch stuff in bite size chunks that you get a lot o out of. Hopefully you feel nourished and have a fun time watching these things and learning something. Thats why its the new phase of television. Yeah, i kind of wish that this had been done when i was younger. These things dont get taught in school. I mean, maybe a little bit but people dont necessarily talk about homelessness or the census or even things like the food system. So do you feel like youre doing a service maybe adding on to what kids would get during normal educational channels . Absolutely. The goal of fur kamal to do a series like this is to add to the discussion over these issues and sort of give people some information. The pandemic is on a lot of peoples minds but it hasnt made these issues like Public Education and homelessness and those other topics that we cover in the series those issues havent gone away. So this is a way where you can maybe laugh while youre learning about these and hopefully, kids can get something out of them and maybe bring them back to school and friends and have some of the topics that were the most fun for me to talk about around the dinner table. The things about how the world can be a better place. Well, especially now, jacob with whats going on, i imagine that you have had a series of six but do you have plans for more . You know, i think that the idea is to put these topics out with the social justice awards that we could help uplift their work. The atlu and donors for the issue of asylum and the issue of Public Education. I think what we really wanted to do was see if we could help the organizations do work incredibly difficult for them to do. We did a video centimeter gig economy with the National DomesticWorkers Association and gig economy rising and the idea is that Domestic Workers are sort of like the original gig workers. But some of the issues facing them are the same as that same that face uber and lyft drivers. What we want to do is see if we can uplift their work and see if its of help and then see if theres an appetite for more. They were so much fun to make. Kamal is a passionate activist and amazing comedian. So the idea of making these things fun and fun gnu is something we hope to do more of in the future. Thank you so much for joining us, i really did like the videos of what i saw and good luck to you. Thank you sal. Thank you for your time. Go to youtube kamal bells youtube page to watch the videos.
