Tyndall Air Force Base demonstrates new sensor technology

The setup has several television screens that display data points for each sensor. Each screen has its own set of data it collects. Although they were mock demonstrations, SimpleSense was able to show what it would look like if there was an active shooter and how the sensors can immediately triangulate that person s location. They said on average it takes about five minutes for first responders to find out the information after the first shot, but the IROC system will let the base know immediately. The sensor system also displayed the layout of the room that the mock shooter was in on the operators smartphones.

Elections 2021: Bay County high students host Lynn Haven runoff forum

The Student Government Association (SGA) of Mosley organized the forum and came up with its own questions. The questions ranged from custodial issues with its own school to the city s apparent lack of transparency in reference to the ongoing federal corruption case that has led to multiple indictments of several former city employees and former Mayor Margo Anderson.  Jacob Pickle, who was the SGA president at Mosley last year, moderated the forum. Each candidate presented their case on each issue that was raised by the students. They all talked about what they would do in office to help with economic development in Lynn Haven, help small businesses in the city and what steps they would take to help with transparency and be honest with residents.

Panama City Florida charter school donates prom dresses to students

PANAMA CITY BEACH  Chautauqua Charter School students took less than an hour Thursday to deliver a load prom dresses at Arnold High School. Arnold administrators had said there were girls concerned about being unable to go to their prom this year because they couldn t get a dress. The Panama City charter school answered the call by delivering dresses that are regularly donated. Students can keep the dresses they pick out or they can donate them back to Chautauqua. When the charter students got to Arnold, they set up a boutique shop in one of the classrooms. They hung up dresses and sorted them by size and set up a table for shoes.

Bay County bridge to Tyndall Air Force Base to be replaced

FDOT recently moved the bridge project forward on its agenda after completing a Dupont Bridge study that determined it should be replaced even though it was still structurally sound. The bridge is structurally sound, however to maintain that bridge, the cost-feasibility to replace the bridge versus to maintaining it, the value is higher, said Ian Satter, public information director for FDOT s District Three. Satter said that it s better fiscally to build a new bridge that will last 75 to 100 years, rather than keep maintaining the Dupont Bridge. The maintenance cost for the Dupont Bridge has reached levels that don t make sense financially.

COVID-19 Panama City Florida: Bay County schools sees fewer cases

School officials worried they would see a jump in COVID cases, but so far that hasn t happened. Instead, reported COVID cases among students have continued to decline. According to the district, just four students have tested positive for the virus in April. In February, when the quarantine rule was changed, the district reported 150 student cases. Lyndsey Jackson, BDS supervisory nurse, said the timing was great for the school district because the number of cases started to drop. The vaccine becoming more available in Bay County also has contributed to the lower numbers, she said. Jackson said it was satisfying to know the change didn t end up being a bad decision.
