backseat. luckily the child was not hurt. delia goncalves is live near the scene with more and what is the latest on the investigation this morning, delia? reporter: we can tell you police still on the scene at first constitution avenue and northeast. take a look behind me here. we are on the senate side of the capitol and police are still here and they have blocked off a portion of the road as they continue to investigate. we can tell you the child now in protective custody. police though still trying to figure out the who and why of yesterday s chase and crash. investigators last night searched the suspect s home in stamford, connecticut. police say 34-year-old miriam carey drove her car into police barricades outside the white house at 15th and e. street yesterday afternoon. police say she then sped down pennsylvania avenue 16 blocks and ended with a crash here at the senate hart office building. at the white house and at the capitol, the security perimeters worked.
