The biggest concern about isis, weve read in recent reports is the ambiguity of whats going to happen s. That your biggest concern . Isis dispose a very serious threat. The beheadings, the humanitarian violations, persecution of religious authorities. The president began a war on isis on the 8th of august. Congress still has not debated or voted whether we should be in the war. I support the president S Military Mission against isis but the president should have sent an thorpeization for it to authorization for it to congress. We should be debating and voting on it. I cant imagine why we would adjourn and go home for the holidays when we have men and women risking their lives. Three have already died in support of the operation. Congress isnt even having a debate and vote. Im doing all i can to Push Congress to have a debate before we adjourn for the holidays. You introduced a law talking about unleashing military force against isis, but you are not for putting boots on the ground. Right. What would this look like . I introduced a resolution in september basically saying lets do four things. The four things are what the president said. Humanitarian relief to refugees. Thats easy. We all agree on that. Air strike campaign. Were engaged in that right now with coalition partners. I visited the air budget in cutter where the air strikes are being organized in october. Counterterrorism operations necessary to take out ice sis leadership and supporting ground forces, the regional ground forces, the iraqi army, moderate opposition elements in syria. But just as the president told the American Public on the night of september 10, theres no a. U. S. Ground troops no amount of u. S. Ground troops that can battle extremism that wont battle its own extremism. If theyll stand up to t we ought to support them. The u. S. Ground troops are not going to beat extremism in a region that wont police itself. Speaker boehner said look, we need boots on the ground. Air strikes arent going to be much. What does the leadership on your side of the aisle say. Senator rild is saying look were senator reid is saying look were going to hold off till january . Why i dont know why the white house hasnt sent an authorization for it. In the past when a president says were going to warks that always means a to war, that always means an authorization is sent to congress. The constitution says its up to congress to declare war. You cant be in a war without a declaration of congress. So were going theres a couple of different options. We have a Foreign Relations Committee Meeting today where were going to bring this up. We could forward it to the floor an authorization. We could attach an authorization to another piece of legislation. Were going to have a vote next week on the defense authorizing bill and also on the budget. Theres a number of different options. Bottom line, we shouldnt leave, adjourn and go home on this without taking our responsibility seriously. Senator tim kaine, thank you very much for being here with us. Absolutely. You think Ashton Carter will be approved as the next yes, i do think he will be approved. Happy holidays to you. And to you. Lets go to howard with the forecast. A beautiful looking morning, everybody. Check this out. Some clouds out there. A lot of breaks in the clouds. High thin clouds through midday. Some sun. Chilly, though. 43 at noon. On our way only to the mid40s today. Clouds thicken up. We could even see a few showers in spots tonight, mainly west of d. C. A few in the upper 20s like culpeper right now, westminster 2. 2 in la plate ta. A lot of folks in the la plata. A lot of folks in the low to mid30s. A pretty morning nonetheless. Right now 38 at national. Light westerly winds. No too much of a windchill. You can see the satellite radar shows the clouds west to east. We have some showers moving toward the tennessee and ohio valley from st. Louis and indianapolis. Thats the shower threat for tonight. As we get into the weekend, though, the shower threat goes late tomorrow, especially west of the blue ridge, but saturday its likely getting to be a wet day across the region. 47 today, chilly.
