The cost of a vegetarian thali became dearer by 7 per cent in March primarily due to the rise in onion, tomato, and potato prices, an arm of domestic rating agency Crisil said today.
In the recent past, tomato prices leapt to as high as Rs 300 per kg in many states because of supply disruption due to heavy rains. Onion prices too are surging, though not quite as alarmingly.
Till date, over 15 lakh kilogram of tomatoes have been procured by the two agencies and are being sold to retail consumers in major consumption centres in the country.
