On 26 September 2022, Paul Gicheru died in Kenya. The Kenyan lawyer was accused of witness tampering at the International Criminal Court (ICC), after the collapse of a big case on the 2007 electoral violence that involves the newly appointed president of Kenya. One month later, the ICC closed the case, looking away from the local investigation on the death.
