Tom Caputo will not seek re-election to Belmont Select Board

Wicked Local Select Board Vice Chairman Thomas Caputo announced Friday he will not seek re-election to his seat in the upcoming April election. Caputo has served since he was elected in 2018. He ran uncontested. He issued the following public statement to the Citizen-Herald: It has been a privilege to serve the Belmont community as a member of the Select Board for the last three years, but I have decided that I will not seek reelection in April. The time requirements of the Select Board role in the last year have become increasingly demanding, and I anticipate that pace will continue for the foreseeable future. I am making this decision to not seek reelection so that I can prioritize my family and my full-time work.

Select Board appoint appoint new external candidates as fire chief

Wicked Local The Select Board voted to offer external candidate David DeStefano the Belmont fire chief position on Jan. 21, contingent upon the negotiation and execution of a contract. DeStefano is currently the shift commander/battalion chief for the North Providence Fire Department. Three finalists were publicly interviewed on Jan. 21. The other two finalists were internal candidate Acting Chief Wayne Haley and external candidate James Peplau, battalion chief of the Waterbury, Connecticut Fire Department.   Select Board Chairman Roy Epstein, Vice Chairman Tom Caputo and member Adam Dash all agreed they thought all three finalists were exceptional candidates and it was a difficult decision to make.
