groups. i mean, they have kind of a tough situation in a way because as you pointed out, they are so white top to bottom that when they do put out, you know, marco rubio or susanna martinez, it does feel like tokenism because, frankly, in a way, it is. you kind of have to start from the ground up and start with policies that are going to appeal to people and attract them in, not just say we have these brown faces here and there. wait a minute, that might explain why ben carson, you know, he says something that, you know, slams the president and suddenly, boom, there he is. he s suddenly the golden child. he s their new black friend. they feel very comfortable. i m not racist, i m hanging out with ben carson. right. but, toure, i want to talk about poll numbers. new pew research poll says 33% of republicans agree that immigrants strengthen the country through their hard work and talents, while 55% say they are a burden on the country by taking jobs, housing, and health
national convention, if you had people coming out saying he s a token or uncle tom or oreo back then and i m not saying that he has not been subjected to racist insults, because he has, but the left would have gone bananas. this guy happens to sound more conservative sounding, i ve never heard him with a broad brush, but the ideals. the normal people expressing outrage are the ones levelling the charges. they re the ones saying tokenism. imagine, i mean, it started with a commentator on another network, imagine if a commentator on fox news said the kind of things he said about barack obama, there d be outrage around the country and go on the other network, left-leaning and saying it about a conservative and it s all right. a combination of a couple of things, intellectual lazeness on the part of the left.
obama s organization that is a granular community based organization that is perpetual in its nature and the fact is we have to get with it and do the same thing and try to do it even better. and so, look, if you are going to market and brand your party on a regular basis, i think you re going to continue to have problems. and that s a big piece of what we re trying to do here. there has been some criticism from folks within your own party regarding these ideas, the national review sort of would say the mouth piece of the professional right says the action items recommended to address these issues are heavy on committee formation and tokenism. where the report does get into policy most notably on the issue of immigration reform, the analysis is shallow and the recommendations opportunistic. this comes on the heels of some republican senators saying that immigration reform could possibly take a few years. that should be the time frame. what is your response to national review and shou
they damage the brand for everybody else. wow. that is a circus act we ve never heard before. got to hand it to the gop. they are flying through the air without a net. joining me now, our politicsnation correspondents. thank you for being here. thank you, rev. angela, they promised a new show but it looks and sounds like the old one to me. how do they expect to attract new voters if they keep putting on the same song and dance? i don t think they expect to attract new voters, rev. they have is so good, the same old policies by the same old folks. they also need to look at how they are utilizing tokenism. the fact that they can find a black or latino face that is not helpful for their communities or families is highly problematic. whether rubio is looking at
i think he was 58 when he was selected as pope. first of all, briefly, you know we ve been talking about the church in crisis. i might be a minority, but i don t feel that the church is in crisis. the hierarchy is in crisis. but the faithful, that is the church, i don t think they feel a sense of crisis as much as they feel a sense of te despondency. i think it would send a strong signal if it was a third-world cardinal, from ghana or latin america. it would send a strong signal. the developing nations. i mean it s worth noting that there is not been a noneuropean pope in 1200 years. that was pope gregory iii from syria in the eighth century, that gives you of a, how long the catholic church has been around, and i m not a big fan of tokenism. i think it would be great if we
