LUDHIANA: A person died whereas his colleague was seriously injured after a Fortuner vehicle allegedly crushed them outside a marriage palace near Dakha area on Saturday evening. The 35-year-old deceased Santosh Samwal from Uttarakhand worked as chef whereas his 20-year-old colleague Ashish Singh suffered serious injuries.
Soim Prakash, told cops that he along with his brother Santosh and Ashish Singh had come to a marriage palace in Dakha area on Friday. He added that after attending marriage, they were waiting for vehicle on the main gate.
The complainant told police officials that the Fortuner vehicle coming from Ludhiana side hit them while they were sitting on grass. He added that both Santosh and Ashish got badly injured in the accident and they were shifted to hospital where Santosh breathed his last whereas Ashish is serious.

LUDHIANA: An employee of Sewa Kendra at mini secretariat allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night. Rakesh Kumar, 35, of Mandi, was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a wire at a storeroom in the kendra. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Rakesh along with his colleagues, Dheeraj and Rishipal, lived in a one-room accommodation at the kendra.
“On Thursday, the trio had gone to Jalandhar to attend a marriage function and returned in the evening. After dinner, when they went to their room, Rakesh told Dheeraj that he was upset and wanted to commit suicide. He did not tell him what was bothering him. Dheeraj then called up Rakesh’s family and talked to them about it,” said a cop.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal
LUDHIANA: With assembly elections barely a year away, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) seems to have already switched into election mode. The party has started taking feedback of its local leaders and workers about the possible candidates for the upcoming polls.
Soon surveys will also be conducted by the SAD in the state to ascertain winnability chances of the probables after which the strongest candidate will be chosen.
Party insiders have maintained that the recent visit of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, too, focussed on the action plan in this regard. Sukhbir, who was in the city on Sunday, had met party’s senior leaders and workers at the farmhouse of a prominent businessman. The selective group of SAD leaders, which was invited to meet him, was apprised of Sukhbir’s visit only hours before he arrived in the afternoon at the plush farmhouse in South City.
PATIALA: In view of the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Patiala, the district administration has issued an advisory on the precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner, Kumar Amit, while holding a meeting with the management of Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib and Mandir Sri Kali Devi besides the representatives of Marriage Palace Association, Hotel, Banquet and Restaurant Owners Association, emphasized on taking necessary precautions against Covid-19 pandemic.
He said that in order to curb the resurgence of Covid-19, keeping in view the public interest, the number of persons for indoor and outdoor social gatherings in Patiala district from March 1this year has already been capped at 100 and 200 respectively but now, there is need to adhere Covid precautions at public places, especially religious places, Gurdwaras, temples, etc., where the number of devotees is high.
