LUDHIANA: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized Captain Amarinder Singh government on the “matter pertaining to release” of the scholarship money to the Dalit students due to which they were “facing problems”.
Senior leader of party and deputy leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Sarvjeet Kaur Manuke said that the issue of post-matric scholarship had been haunting the students of Punjab for over a year now.
She said that more than 50,000 Dalit students were suffering as they had not been given their degrees because of non-disbursal of funds. Moreover, the survival of over 1,600 colleges is at stake because these funds have still not been released. They are on their verge of closure. she added.
Ludhiana: City businessmen are upbeat over Punjab cabinet’s approval to amend the Industrial and Business Development Policy, 2017, for extension of GST formula for availing the incentives. The decision has been taken by the cabinet, based upon the feedback received from the industry associations for extending the last date of claiming the GST incentive.
The fiscal incentive under the present policy was only applicable for investment proposals received till March 31, 2020, on the Invest Punjab Business First portal, but now with the Cabinet decision, the GST formula notified on October 17, 2018, shall be extended for availing incentive under the Industrial & Business Development Policy, 2017, till October 17, 2022. Meanwhile, businessmen are of the view that the GST-based incentives should be rolled out for the existing industrial units too.
Ludhiana: City-based business association Bahadurke Road Textile and Knitwear Association, which has been up in arms against the state government and municipal corporation on the Buddah Nallah rejuvenation project, has now shot off a complaint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to stop the execution of the project as there are many flaws in it. Notably, the association has been claiming that the project for which the tender has been allotted for Rs 519 crore can be completed at Rs 325 crore only and there are many other shortcomings in the project.

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana deputy commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday directed the various departments to sensitize their staff members to get inoculated under the Covid vaccination drive in Punjab in the war against the pandemic.
Presiding over a meeting of District Task Force, the deputy commissioner said that in Ludhiana, 36,195 healthcare and 24,321 frontline workers have so far registered on the Covid portal out of which 18,754 and 6,099 have been vaccinated by the health teams.
Sharma asked the district education officers (primary and secondary) and district programme officers to start an intensive awareness drive among the teachers and Anganwari workers regarding the importance of the Covid vaccination.
