he drags mckpab into the spotlight. terry mcauliffe gave over $500,000 to mccabe s wife to run as a democrat for the state senate. i think mccabe s mistake in that race he appeared in political literature with his wife, it s his wife, and that s a response a lot of people have, other people s response is, it s the fbi. you ve given up your nonpartisan chops with that, and the president is taking advantage of that. is he supposed to pretend he s not her husband? i mean, is look, you flow, there s two ways that can go, but when they as a couple made the decision that she was going to get in that race, she decided to get in that race, it was going to have consequences for an fbi agent
of any agency. there will always be tension happening. andrew mccabe specifically is problematic because his wife was receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in political donations from democrats including democrats with strong ties to hillary clinton. this is a huge red flag that the president has been raising. rick: the governor of virginia his political organization gave $500,000 to mccabe s wife for her senate campaign. she lost. her husband was promoted to the position of overseeing the clinton email probe. that fuels some talk of bias obviously. i understand that. as you said that was before he was promoted to deputy director and she did lose the race. the f.b.i. is an apolitical organization so politics it s the president that keeps roping them in to politics. my friends over at the f.b.i. are concerned because they see this as the f.b.i. basically caving to political pressure
president s account if special counsel robert mueller decides to look into this fully, the firing of james comey, perhaps asking mccabe his impression of what happened, according to mccabe, comey told him about this at the time. could be contemporary witness. what could you tell us about mccabe s relationship with republicans? number of republicans have been critical of mccabe, don t believe he s necessarily been a fair arbiter at fbi and particularly don t like the way the e-mail investigation was handled, the clinton investigation. and that s one reason why he was brought behind closed doors before two house committees today. just left after nine hours behind closed doors. second testimony this week. in large part asked about the clinton e-mail investigation. what i m told from republicans who left the room including jim jordan, reinforced their belief
reaction of the president to mccabe as the acting director and will it impact the search for a permanent replacement in any way? fair questions. you heard the president say he had confidence in mr. mccabe. he is very experienced. a rare occasion, bill, when i can say an acting f.b.i. director is a lightning rod of controversy and certainly that would appear to be the case for andrew mccabe. keep in mind his wife ran for political office in virginia and close ties to the clinton campaign and virginia governor. some including iowa senator chuck grassley asking questions about his qualifications the move into that position on a permanent basis. we ll talk more about that in a moment and share a bit of what the former director of the f.b.i. had to say to f.b.i. employees. james comey took to social media to express his gratitude for all that was done during his time in office. he said look, i have long believed that a president can
