prompt the appointment of a special counsel, and so i asked a close friend of mine to do it. jim, you re the head of the fbi. you told the president in that memo repeatedly, your memos, that the president wasn t under investigation. you get fired. now you need to put things in the public square to get a special counsel? why? your memo, the first one, was actually sent to the fbi, to mccabe and company, and since there clearly wasn t anything criminal in that memo, then what s with your hogwash about you need to get information into the public square to get a special counsel appointed. jim, it s so obvious. you re fired, and you re mad. you re a liar and you re a leaker. you re pompous. you re egotistical and condescending and violate the very laws you are sworn to
memos and that didn t seem to go over so well. it seems like it is a repetitive nature here. i would love to see this inspector general s report that sessions has cited and i think that they should release it immediately so we can see what that determination was. right now we have the hearsay of saying we have this report, this is what it says but we re not releasing it. julie: right. from the time we were first made aware of the report, to mccabe s ouster was a span of five or six days, so on the surface it seems like this was very rushed to make sure it happened right before he was set to retire. and then of course collect that pension. now, he s obviously going to appeal this. so there s going to be, you know, the mueller investigation on one hand, more stuff is going to come out about this. we hopefully will be able to see the inspector general s report. and then you will have mccabe s appeal which is going to have more stuff come out of that as well. you will have three differ
still under investigation. is that appropriate. a lot of us have goten on the president s case about tweeting about this stuff, saying leave it alone, let mueller do his job. the same advice to comey. is this what he should be doing. paul: let s move on to mccabe and the criminal referral to the u.s. attorney s office. what do you make of that? around is mccabe what do you make of the fight that s going on between mccabe and comey, the nastiest divorce since war of the roses over whether the other s lying. that fight matters, because if you look at the inspector general s report, a great deal of the conclusions that he drew in the end rest on testimony or discussion that comey had with the inspector general s office, and that leads him to the conclusion mccabe lied. mccabe came out and suggested that mr. comey is lying and this is going to have to be something that all gets sorted out by the prosecutors who take a look at this and decide whether or not
hear it on the face of it. how did it start? a u.s. lawmaker official tells us when deputy director andrew mccabe and white house chief of staff reince priebus on the day after those stories were published, a white house official says mccabe told priebus the new york times story vastly overstated what the fbi knows about the contacts. the white house official says priebus later reached out to mccabe and fbi director james comey asking for the fbi to at least talk to reporters on background to dispute the stories. a law enforcement official says mccabe didn t discuss aspects of the case, but we don t know exactly what mccabe told priebus. i should add the fbi has declined to comment on the story. pamela, the white house chief of staff, reen priebus, denied the story. this is what he said on fox news sunday earlier this week. the new york times last week put out an article with no
house frustration, here the fbi telling them there s nothing to the story. then you see in many news outlets, hey, this is going on. meanwhile, we re got the president of the united states needing to negotiate or normalize relationship with russia and this is detracting from that diplomatic efforts because there s so many issues that we need to be talking to russia about, from i.c.e.is, to syria, to crimea, and it s very difficult to do in an atmosphere like this. let s be here about the reporting there, we heard from jack that reince priebus, chief of staff, spoke to mccabe and said, hey, what can we do about this? however, the reporting is from cnn that priebus later reached back to mccabe and asked the director and asked the fbi to talk to reporters, to come out and defend the white house and clear up what they saw as a discrepancy? that s right.
