TN polls: AIADMK seals poll pact with BJP, gives Kanyakumari LS seat; 20 assembly segments

Chennai, Mar 06: The ruling AIADMK has allotted 20 Assembly constituencies and the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha seat to its ally BJP for the April 6 Assembly elections, after several rounds of negotiations.
Following up with the release of its first list of six candidates for the polls on Friday, the AIADMK firmed up the electoral agreement with the Saffron party late Friday night.
An AIADMK release pledged its full support to the candidates of the BJP in the polls and the pact was signed by O Panneerselvam and K Palaniswami from the ruling party side and the saffron party s national general secretary, C T Ravi and state unit chief L Murugan.
In West Bengal’s assembly elections, there are frequent political squabbles. Dinesh Trivedi, a former Union Minister and chief of West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress, recently joined the BJP. JP Nadda, the BJP’s national president, was in attendance, as were Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan. Nadda said at the time, “I am overjoyed that we will be joining Dinesh Trivedi Ji in the BJP today. On behalf of all my colleagues and thousands of activists, I extend my warmest greetings and welcome.”

Sasikala Quits Politics
Before the assembly elections in Tamilnadu, there has been a major political upsurge. Former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s confidant VK Sasikala has declared that she is distancing herself from politics. Sasikala has said that “I am leaving politics to ensure the formation of ADMK government in Tamil Nadu.” I will pray to God and my sister (Jayalalithaa) for the victory of ADMK. Assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu on April 6 in one process.
Issuing a remark, Sasikala said on Wednesday that ‘I never set a goal for power or any place’. She claims that she is leaving public life. She has said that the AIADMK should be unified and the DMK should be defeated in the forthcoming assembly elections. Sasikala asked all the true supporters of Jayalalithaa to save the “common enemy” DMK from coming to power in the assembly elections and to ensure Amma’s golden rule in Tamil Nadu.
Her appeal, days after returning to Tamil Nadu after serving a four year prison sentence in an assets case, appeared to be a signal for truce with the ruling AIADMK ahead of the polls, likely in April.

Chennai: Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S Ramadoss has cleared that he would not hold any alliance talks with the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for the upcoming Assembly Elections until the demand of 20 per cent sub-quota for Vanniyar community in education and jobs is fulfilled by the government.
