Assembly election results LIVE: TMC ahead in Bengal, Left in Kerala, BJP in Assam, close fight in TN

Counting of votes underway in Chennai on May 2, 2021. | PTI The counting of votes for the Assembly elections held in four states – West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam – and the Union Territory of Puducherry began at 8 am. Early trends from the Election Commission showed the Trinamool Congress was ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal. In Kerala, the ruling Left was leading. The saffron party was ahead in Assam while the the DMK and it allies were leading in Tamil Nadu. West Bengal went to polls in eight phases, Assam voted in three and the elections for the remaining – Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry took place in a single phase on April 6.
